In response to the case of Qian Li, a spouse from mainland China and an employee of Asus, who was recently terminated from her residency for advocating for the unification through military force and expressing support for the Chinese Communist Party to govern in Taiwan, Minister of the Interior, Liu Shi-fang, stated that if Qian Li holds such views, she can go back to mainland China and does not need to come to Taiwan.
Qian Li, an employee of the laptop giant Asus and a mainland Chinese spouse, was exposed in March this year for utilizing Communist Party laws to report “Taiwan independence” within the company and media, and advocating for unification through military means and supporting the Chinese military. As a result, her Taiwan identity and household registration were revoked.
The National Immigration Agency of the Republic of China announced on the 2nd, after consulting with relevant authorities, that her residency based on family reunification has been terminated. Qian Li stated on social media that she will seek administrative remedies in accordance with the law, appeal within 30 days to protect her lawful rights, and seek compensation from the Ministry of the Interior and the Executive Yuan.
The Internal Affairs Committee of the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China examined the draft amendment to the Anti-Fraud Act today, with invitations extended to Minister of the Interior, Liu Shi-fang, Director of the National Police Agency, Zhang Rongxing, Director of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Zhou Yuwei, and others.
Before the meeting, Liu Shi-fang stated in a media interview that regarding the issue of legal residency for Mainland spouses in Taiwan, she would not comment on specific cases, and regardless of whether Qian Li chooses to appeal or file administrative lawsuits, the Ministry of the Interior would respect the process.
Liu Shi-fang emphasized, “Regardless of the order of arrival of Republic of China nationals, we must respect the rule of law in Taiwan. Taiwan is a place of freedom, rule of law, and democracy, and we do not wish for anyone to trample on the legal dignity of Taiwan on any grounds.”
Regarding Qian Li’s statement on social media asking to give the Chinese Communist Party the opportunity to govern in Taiwan, Liu Shi-fang remarked that while it is a political issue, it is also contradictory. “If she (Qian Li) has such thoughts, she can just go back to mainland China, she doesn’t need to come to Taiwan,” and furthermore, she insists on using the identity of a citizen of the Republic of China; isn’t this full of contradictions?
Asus responded on the 2nd that they will comply with the decision of the competent authority and deal with subsequent labor relations according to regulations. Additionally, it is reported that Qian Li has completed the resignation process from the company.
