Taiwanese Scholar Predicted 20 Years Ago: CCP Will Attack Taiwan by Taking Control of the Legislative Yuan

On Tuesday (28th), the Taiwan Legislative Yuan forcibly passed the Parliament Empowerment Act, triggering large-scale protests. It is believed by observers that this move is an attempt by pro-China forces to weaken the power of the Taiwan President. Some netizens even dug up a 20-year-old article by Taiwanese historian Li Xiaofeng, where he predicted that if the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) were to use force against Taiwan, the first place they would seize would be the Legislative Yuan. Netizens praised Li Xiaofeng as a prophet.

The column, titled “Where Would China Occupy First if It Uses Force Against Taiwan?” was originally published in April 2001 in the “Independence Evening News”. On May 29th, Li Xiaofeng, an honorary professor at National Taipei University of Education, posted a photo of the article on his personal website, stating: “This is an article I wrote 23 years ago. Look at the chaos caused by the blue and white politicians in the Legislative Yuan today, isn’t it exactly as I predicted? How sad!”

In this article, Li Xiaofeng mentioned that he once asked his students during a class where China (CCP) would start if they used force against Taiwan. The students believed that capturing islands like Penghu or Kinmen would be the easiest to undermine the people’s morale, while some thought they would attack the main island first.

Li Xiaofeng responded, “China (CCP) will not attack anywhere first, but the place they will capture first should be the Legislative Yuan. When the voice of Beijing’s ‘One China’ echoes in the Legislative Yuan, even without sending troops, Taiwan will surrender naturally. Therefore, China (CCP) will definitely capture Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan first.”

Li Xiaofeng said that this joke is actually very serious. Penghu and Kinmen are not Taiwan’s frontlines. The real frontline of Taiwan’s sovereignty is in the Legislative Yuan. He urged all true Taiwan patriots to defend the Legislative Yuan together during the upcoming election at the end of the year and not let it be occupied by Beijing’s pawns!

Recently, Li Xiaofeng, in an interview with Formosa TV, said, “Rather than calling it prophecy, I believe that if the Legislative Yuan is predominantly taken over by the so-called pro-unification faction, Taiwan is doomed. This current administration has proposed many bills that make it clear they are pro-China (CCP) and aim to weaken and undermine Taiwan.”

Exiled mainland Chinese writer Yuan Hongbing once revealed that on January 27th this year, the CCP Taiwan Affairs Office submitted a document entitled “Key Strategic Points for United Front Strategy in Occupying the Taiwan Legislative Yuan High Ground” to CCP leader Xi Jinping and CPPCC Chairman Wang Huning. This document has been distributed to the United Front departments, CPPCC committees, and Taiwan Affairs Offices across all provinces and autonomous regions of China to infiltrate Taiwan comprehensively, with the battleground being the Legislative Yuan.

The essence of the document states that the CCP plans to use “certain individuals to propose legislation reform under the guise of investigating powers of the Legislative Yuan, questioning rights of the President, anti-Taiwan independence laws, etc. Even if these bills may not pass immediately, they are enough to cause confusion and even a shutdown of Taiwan’s legislative authority, thereby effectively reducing the efficiency of the DPP administration and President Lai Ching-te.”
