Recently, there have been further developments in the case of a female internet celebrity living in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, New York, who dined and dashed. According to reports from English-language media, the Taiwanese woman named Pei Chung, was taken into custody by the police last Friday (November 21) after dining and dashing. This time, she was sentenced to jail by a judge, with a bail set at $4,500 for multiple charges combined. However, as of Monday, no one has posted bail for her.
Last Friday evening, at 178 Kent Avenue in her apartment neighborhood in Williamsburg, Pei Chung once again displayed her consistent act at the Mexican restaurant Mole Mexican Bar and Grill, ordering food worth $149 and then refusing to pay, as reported by the New York Post.
This marks the 10th time Pei Chung has been arrested so far, with previous instances resulting in her release without bail by judges. However, this time a judge set her bail at $1,500 for her dine and dash offense, adding $1,500 for each dine and dash incident, and factoring in additional charges related to failure to report as ordered in two cases. Consequently, Pei Chung’s total bail amount now stands at $4,500.
With no one posting bail, Pei Chung is currently being held at Rikers Island Jail.
On Instagram, Pei Chung stated that she is “99 pounds and hasn’t had plastic surgery”; additional records from Rikers Island Jail mention her as “5 feet 4 inches tall, 100 pounds, Taiwanese.”
Restaurant staff who have experienced Pei Chung’s dine and dash tactics breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing about her arrest, with many believing she did it to attract more followers. Indeed, from Pei Chung’s Instagram account, it appears that her number of followers has increased following this scandal.
However, some Chinese online sources revealed that Pei Chung had experienced relationship troubles before, which left her friends stunned by her subsequent actions.
Additionally, besides refusing to pay for meals, Pei Chung has also refused to pay rent. She currently owes $40,000 in rent and is facing eviction on December 2. According to the New York Post, Pei Chung’s landlord is none other than the well-known former New York Governor, Eliot Spitzer.
