Taiwanese Elderly Association in Northern California Celebrates Mother’s Day Gathering Together

On May 4th (last Saturday), the Northern California Taiwanese Elders Association held its 2024 Mother’s Day celebration at the South Bay Overseas Chinese Cultural and Educational Center, with approximately 300 guests in attendance.

The distinguished guests at the event included Deputy Consul General Zhu Yongchang from the San Francisco Consulate, Director Zhuang Yashu from the San Francisco Bay Area Cultural and Educational Center, President Zhang Zhengbang of the Northern California Taiwanese Association, and San Francisco City Attorney Qiu Xinfu.

In an interview, President Chen Biyun of the Northern California Taiwanese Elders Association said, “The Northern California Taiwanese Elders Association was established in 1981 and is officially registered with the state government. The association has been in existence for over forty years, and every year, we organize various celebratory events to provide our elders with opportunities to gather with friends and family, enhance communication among each other, and make new acquaintances. The purpose of these activities is to serve our elders, giving them more social opportunities to participate in and interact with others.”

The event featured many exciting performances, including the Hakka Octet Band’s renditions of “Hanging Gold Medallions,” “Grandparents,” and “Drinking Spring Water,” songs sung by Wu Jianmin such as “Life’s Dojo” and “Mother in Dream,” songs performed by Lu Xueming like “Can’t Keep You” and “my way,” and the Northern District Karaoke Club’s rendition of “Applause Rings.”

Chen Biyun pointed out that during the Mother’s Day celebration, a daughter-in-law shared her experiences with her mother-in-law, and a granddaughter told stories about her grandmother. Furthermore, on the first Saturday of August, they will host an event to celebrate Father’s Day in Taiwan.

She also added that since taking on the role of president on January 1st last year, the membership has increased by over 100 people. Her greatest joy is seeing everyone in good health and cheerful spirits.
