He stated that Taiwan’s contribution is invaluable to America’s “Great Again” vision and that the government will strive for the best outcome in negotiations with the US, while also encouraging overseas compatriots to continue advocating for Taiwan.

Premier Cho Rong-tai praised the US-Chinese Club for its long-standing efforts in facilitating Taiwan-US exchanges and promoting people-to-people friendships. He highlighted the club’s resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, where they actively supported the local government and vulnerable groups by donating medical supplies. He acknowledged the valuable support and care provided by overseas compatriots and friends during critical moments of transformation and challenges in Taiwan.

In response to President Trump’s announcement of tariffs on April 3, leading to a restructuring of the global trade order, Taiwan swiftly formulated an industry support plan with 9 key aspects and 20 measures on April 4. This included the approval of the “Response Plan for US Tariff Export Supply Chain Support” on April 21.

Premier Cho Rong-tai expressed delight that Taiwan was among the first countries prioritized for negotiations with the US. He highlighted the engagement in virtual meetings on April 11 and the first round of in-person discussions on May 1. While negotiations are ongoing, he stressed the importance of preparedness and meaningful engagement to secure national interests and uphold Taiwan’s industrial competitiveness.

Highlighting Taiwan’s robust economic strength, particularly in the high-tech manufacturing sector that plays a crucial role in the global supply chain, Premier Cho Rong-tai urged overseas compatriots and Taiwanese business friends to expand relationships in the US. He emphasized the importance of advocating for Taiwan, strengthening international ties, and bringing back technological knowledge to enhance local industries.

Under President Lai Ching-te’s leadership, the government has undertaken various reforms in line with the vision of “Healthy Taiwan, Balanced Taiwan, Unified Taiwan.” Premier Cho Rong-tai emphasized the significance of Taiwan’s high-tech industries and the development of AI technologies to elevate global competitiveness and promote industrial transformation in the country.

Moreover, the government’s initiative to establish the “Youth Billion Overseas Dream Fund Program” aims to send outstanding young Taiwanese abroad for education to contribute to national development upon their return. Premier Cho Rong-tai called for support from overseas compatriots and Taiwanese business friends to assist these young scholars in adapting to local environments and achieving their aspirations.

In conclusion, Premier Cho Rong-tai extended gratitude to the overseas Taiwanese community for their continuous support in promoting Taiwan-US cooperation and advancing social welfare activities in their respective regions. He expressed hopes for continued collaboration in the future.

During the delegation’s visit to Taiwan, leader of the US-Chinese Club, Xu Wan-you, commended Taiwan’s rapid response to private sector demands following the global turbulence caused by the US’s tariff policy. The delegation aimed to gain insights into Taiwan’s development and share their experiences upon returning, enhancing Taiwan’s visibility in their places of residence.

Xu Wan-you acknowledged the alignment between Premier Cho Rong-tai’s “Youth Billion Overseas Dream Fund” and the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission’s “Taiwan Youth Overseas Bulletin Plan.” The US-Chinese Club has long been dedicated to generational continuity efforts, and with the support of Taiwanese business partners and compatriots, all are committed to assisting and supporting Taiwanese youth studying abroad in various overseas communities.
