Taiwan, United States, Japan, Australia, and Canada Discuss GCTF Collaboration, UK Attends as Observer

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) announced that the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) Joint Committee meeting was held in Taipei on the 25th. In addition to member countries, the British Office in Taiwan was invited to attend as an observer.

Since its establishment on June 1, 2015, the GCTF Joint Committee has organized international workshops on various global issues, totaling 82 events held both domestically and internationally, with invitations extended to 132 countries and over 9,600 government officials, scholars, and experts.

On the 26th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China, the American Institute in Taiwan, the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, the Australian Office, and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei convened the 2024 GCTF Joint Committee meeting in Taipei. The British Office in Taiwan was invited as an observer, with partner members participating via video conference from Tokyo, Canberra, and Ottawa.

During the GCTF meeting, achievements of this year’s GCTF activities were reviewed, and discussions were held on cooperation topics for the next year. These topics include combating emerging drug crimes and tracing money laundering, enhancing societal resilience, disaster preparedness and response, promoting net-zero emissions and green trade transformation, public-private cooperation in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and combating foreign information manipulation and interference.

Moreover, next year marks the 10th anniversary of the GCTF’s establishment, and discussions were held during the meeting on upgrading and transforming the GCTF and formulating strategies for further development. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China welcomes like-minded countries to actively participate and continue to collaborate through the GCTF to address the global challenges we face.
