The Republic of China has purchased 108 “World’s Strongest Tank” M1A2T tanks from the United States. The first batch of 38 tanks arrived in Taiwan at the end of last year, and the second batch of 42 M1A2T tanks arrived in Taiwan on the evening of the 27th, bringing the total number of tanks of the same type acquired by the military to 80.
On December 15, 2024, the first 38 M1A2T tanks arrived at the Port of Taipei on a national cargo ship. Starting from July 9 this year, the Ministry of National Defense conducted the longest 10-day and 9-night live-fire exercise “Han Guang No. 41” for the military. On the 10th day, the M1A2T tanks conducted live-fire exercises with 120mm tank guns at the Hsinchu Kengzihou training ground, firing a total of 19 rounds, all hitting the targets.
President of the Republic of China, Lai Ching-te, personally inspected the exercise and praised the M1A2T tanks, known as the “World’s Strongest Tank,” for their strong firepower and mobility.
On the evening of the 27th, the second batch of 42 M1A2T tanks arrived at the Port of Taipei and were loaded onto large commercial flatbed trailers. In the early morning of the 28th, they left the port area and were transported to the Armor Training Command Headquarters in Hukou, Hsinchu.
According to the Republic of China’s Ministry of National Defense plan, the second batch of 42 M1A2T tanks completed the transportation operation today, and the third batch of 28 M1A2T tanks is expected to arrive at the country’s doorstep in the first quarter of 2026.
