Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau issued maritime and land typhoon warnings for Typhoon Kaemi at 11:30 a.m. today (23rd). Typhoon Kaemi is expected to pose a threat to New Taipei City, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung. It is forecasted that the intensity of the typhoon will continue to strengthen, and there is a trend of the wind radius expanding.
The Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan stated that as of 8 a.m. this morning, the center of Typhoon Kaemi was located at 19.6 degrees north latitude, 124.9 degrees east longitude, moving north at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour. The central pressure was 960 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center at 38 meters per second, and maximum gusts at 48 meters per second. The radius of gale-force winds averaged 180 kilometers (150 kilometers on the northwest side, 180 kilometers on the northeast side, 150 kilometers on the southwest side, and 220 kilometers on the southeast side), while the radius of storm-force winds averaged 60 kilometers (40 kilometers on the northwest side, 60 kilometers on the northeast side, 40 kilometers on the southwest side, and 80 kilometers on the southeast side).
At 11:30 a.m. today, the Central Weather Bureau issued maritime and land typhoon warnings for Typhoon Kaemi (internationally named GAEMI). The center of Typhoon Kaemi at 11 a.m. was located at 20.2 degrees north latitude, 125.0 degrees east longitude, approximately 470 kilometers southeast of Cape Eluanbi, moving at a speed of 22 to 15 kilometers per hour in a north-northwesterly to northwesterly direction.
According to the latest typhoon dynamics data, Typhoon Kaemi has slightly intensified in the past 3 hours, with the storm radius also expanding. Currently, the center is over the sea southeast of Cape Eluanbi, moving in a north-northwesterly to northwesterly direction. Its gale-force wind circle is gradually approaching the Bashi Channel and the seas off the southeastern part of Taiwan, posing a threat to New Taipei City, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung. It is projected that the typhoon will continue to strengthen in intensity with an expanding wind radius.
Areas under land typhoon alert for Typhoon Kaemi: New Taipei City, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung should be on high alert. Areas under maritime alert: Bashi Channel, seas off the southeastern part of Taiwan, seas off the northeastern part of Taiwan, and seas off the northern part of Taiwan. Ships operating in these areas should exercise caution.
Advisories for Typhoon Kaemi: Probability of long-period swells along the northern and eastern coasts (including Lanyu and Green Island) and the Hengchun Peninsula today. Waves and winds near Taiwan and the Bashi Channel are gradually increasing. Starting tonight, waves over 3 meters are expected along the northern coast of Keelung, the eastern coast (including Lanyu and Green Island), and the coast of the Hengchun Peninsula. Pay close attention as high tide may lead to coastal flooding in low-lying areas of the southwest, northern coasts, and Yilan.
Special warning for strong winds on land: Lanyu and Green Island will experience gusts of force 9 to 10 today. From the afternoon, there will be stronger gusts in open coastal areas from Taoyuan to Miaoli and in Penghu, so please be cautious.
Heatwave information: The weather is extremely hot today. New Taipei City is under a red alert, with a high probability of extreme temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius. Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County are under an orange alert for the chance of 38-degree extreme temperatures. Taoyuan City, Miaoli County, Changhua County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Taitung County are under an orange alert for the likelihood of continuous high temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius. Kinmen County is under a yellow alert, so please take note.
