Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau issued a typhoon warning for Typhoon Yangliu this afternoon (12th), including Hualien, Taitung, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung in the alert area.
According to the Central Weather Bureau, at 2:00 p.m. today, Typhoon Yangliu’s center was located at 21.2 degrees north latitude and 126.5 degrees east longitude, moving at a speed of 22 kilometers per hour to the west-northwest. The central atmospheric pressure is 970 hPa, with a maximum wind speed near the center of 33 meters per second and maximum gusts of 43 meters per second. The radius of strong winds is 120 kilometers on average (130 kilometers northwest, 130 kilometers northeast, 120 kilometers southwest, 110 kilometers southeast) at a storm level seven, and 40 kilometers on average (40 kilometers northwest, 40 kilometers northeast, 40 kilometers southwest, 30 kilometers southeast) at storm level ten.
The Central Weather Bureau stated that according to the latest data, the center of Typhoon Yangliu is currently in the southeast sea area of Taitung, moving from west-northwest to northwest, posing a threat to the eastern sea area of Taiwan, the Bashi Channel, and the Taiwan Strait. It is expected that the intensity of this typhoon will slightly increase with a trend of expanding storm radius.
Areas under the alert include Hualien, Taitung, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung on land, where caution should be exercised. At sea, the alert areas are the Taiwan Strait, the eastern sea area of Taiwan, and the Bashi Channel where navigation and operating vessels should be on high alert.
Special Heavy Rain Warning: The convective cloud system will strengthen in the afternoon, leading to short-duration heavy rains. There is a probability of localized heavy rain in areas south of Chiayi today. Please beware of thunder and strong gusts.
Special Strong Wind Warning: Due to the influence of the typhoon and its peripheral circulation, there is a probability of average winds of level 12 or above or gusts of level 14 or above in some parts of Taitung County (including Orchid Island and Green Island) on the 13th (red signal). Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Penghu County have a probability of average winds of level 9 or above or gusts of level 11 or above in some areas (orange signal).
Keelung City, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Nantou County, Changhua County, Chiayi City, Yilan County, Hualien County, Kinmen County, and Lienchiang County have a probability of average winds of level 6 or above or gusts of level 8 or above in some areas (yellow signal).
