The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that Deputy Minister Wu Chih-chung witnessed Taiwan and the Czech Republic joining hands once again to assist Ukraine in rebuilding crucial infrastructure.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China issued a press release indicating that to demonstrate the firm support of the Republic of China and the Czech Republic for Ukraine, Ambassador Ke Liang-rui in the Czech Republic and Czech Representative to Taiwan David Steinke signed the “Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing a Partnership to Promote Ukraine’s Key Infrastructure Energy” via video on June 27, continuing to cooperate to help Ukraine rebuild clean water treatment facilities and energy generation systems.
Deputy Minister Wu Chih-chung of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China and Czech Government Special Envoy for Ukraine reconstruction Tomáš Kopečný attended the signing ceremony online.
During his speech, Wu Chih-chung stated that Taiwan and the Czech Republic are continuing this cooperation to continue assisting Ukraine, which has been affected by Russian aggression, in constructing a resilient electricity energy supply system and helping the Ukrainian people access clean drinking water. The planned construction of mobile water treatment facilities will benefit approximately 380,000 residents in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, while the biomass cogeneration energy system project will benefit around 60,000 residents in Kharkiv Oblast.
Wu Chih-chung said, “In the future, our country will closely cooperate with countries such as the Czech Republic that share similar ideals, harnessing the power of democratic partnerships to continue contributing to the reconstruction of Ukraine.”
Envoy Tomáš Kopečný expressed his gratitude for witnessing the continued cooperation between Taiwan and the Czech Republic, creating a unique trilateral cooperation model that connects Taiwan, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine, ensuring that the most severely affected people in eastern Ukraine have access to safe drinking water. He thanked the governments of both countries for their hard work, marking a milestone in Taiwan-Czech friendship after two years of continuous consultations, demonstrating exemplary high-level visits and exchanges between the two countries that can be emulated by countries worldwide.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that this project continues the joint aid to Ukraine plan initiated by Taiwan and the Czech Republic in 2023, aiming to assist the Ukrainian people affected by war in meeting their urgent needs for water and energy. This involves building advanced water purification facilities using filtration technology within Ukraine and improving energy supply efficiency to enhance Ukraine’s energy resilience, helping the people cope with extreme summers and winters.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China mentioned, “Our country is continuing to closely cooperate with several European countries to assist in the reconstruction of Ukraine, upholding the spirit of the Rongbang Plan by promoting humanitarian aid, educational cooperation, responding to the international community’s concern and support for Ukraine and its people, and gradually expanding the cooperation scope to help Ukraine build societal resilience.” These positive actions highlight the shared values of mutual assistance and humanitarian spirit among Taiwan, European countries, and Ukraine, as well as the firm support for freedom, peace, and human rights.
