Superman’s New Film Wrapped Up in 5 Months, Post-Production to Take 1 Year for Visual Quality保视覺品質後製需1年

Recently, James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, discussed the visual effects quality in the upcoming first DC film, “Superman,” as well as the Supergirl movie, emphasizing the importance of giving the visual effects team ample time to enhance the effects.

James Gunn, who is directing “Superman,” set to be released on July 11, 2025, is the first film in the new DC blueprint. Despite the long wait until its release date, “Superman” wrapped filming at the end of July this year and is currently in post-production. Gunn mentioned that this approach was taken to provide the post-production team with more time to perfect the visual effects of the film, including the Supergirl movie.

On the 18th, a fan raised concerns on the social media platform Threads to Gunn about the overwork and low pay of artists involved in creating visual effects, leading to poor computer-generated imagery (CGI) effects in many big-budget films. The fan inquired if Gunn had considered adopting different production methods.

Gunn responded, stating, “If you do some research, you’ll find that my films always use different approaches, and I always give my visual effects (VFX) artist partners enough time to complete their work, showing them the respect they deserve. That’s why the visual effects quality of these films is outstanding (because my friends at Weta, Framestore, ILM, and other companies are very talented).”

Gunn added, “That’s why we wrapped ‘Superman’ a year before its release, why we worked hard to complete many shooting tasks in the months leading up to the wrap. That’s why we started editing with care during filming, why I prepared so diligently, why we only shoot completed scripts. I didn’t direct ‘Supergirl,’ but the movie will also be made in the same way.”

In the new DC movies, American actor David Corenswet will portray Superman, while Australian actress Milly Alcock will play Supergirl. “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is set to begin filming at the end of 2024 or early 2025 and is scheduled to be released in June 2026.

Prior to this, there have been eight Superman films released, which include five Superman movies from 1978 to 2006. The 2013 film “Man of Steel” marked the first Superman installment in the DC Extended Universe. It was followed by the second and third movies, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016) and “Justice League” (2017).
