Successful conclusion of the Golden Mountain Bay Area Chinese Athletic Meet, exciting climax of the golf tournament.

The “Hua Yun Cup Golf Open” was held in a grand manner at the Bay View Golf Club in Nanwan on August 24 (last Saturday). The competition attracted the enthusiastic participation of nearly a hundred golf enthusiasts from all over North America.

Several dignitaries and overseas Chinese leaders were invited to attend the event, including the director of the San Francisco Office, Lai Mingqi, the director of the San Francisco Bay Area Cultural and Educational Center, Zhuang Yashu, the organizer of the Hua Yun Cup Golf Tournament, Lin Mengxiong, deputy organizer Wu Wen, director committee member of the San Francisco Bay Area Chinese Sports Conference, Chen Chaoquan, as well as chief advisor Lin Guixiang and executive advisor Lu Yuzhen.

On the morning of the competition day at 7 a.m., participants from various groups had arrived at the golf course on time for registration. Dozens of electric golf carts were neatly lined up, adorned with various golf clubs, creating a bustling scene with people coming and going. With a tee shot by Lai Mingqi, the players from each group began their competition one after another. The competition was divided into four categories: men’s, women’s, seniors, and masters, and participants had to be at least 16 years old. The competition was organized based on each player’s individual handicap using the recognized “New Peoria System,” ensuring that each player could showcase their skills in a fair environment.

Lai Mingqi expressed gratitude to the overseas Chinese community for their longstanding support of the Hua Yun Cup and active participation in various competitions. The significance of these competitions lies in participation and enhancing friendship among overseas Chinese friends.

Chen Chaoquan, chairman of the 40th Hua Yun Games, stated that today’s golf competition was the highlight event of this year’s Hua Yun Games. He explained that the competition would be conducted using the Shotgun format, with all players teeing off simultaneously on 18 holes. This competition attracted approximately 100 players, making it one of the largest-scale events in the Hua Yun Games. Chen Chaoquan extended special thanks to the organizer Lin Mengxiong for his dedication and effort, and hoped that all players would deliver outstanding performances and achieve good results. ◇
