Street Survey: 37% of Hong Kong’s Restaurants Report an Increase in Delivery Revenue in the First Quarter

In the report released by the food delivery platform “House Delivery” on the “Restaurant Confidence Index” for the first quarter of 2024, 37% of the surveyed restaurants indicated that delivery income had recorded growth. Additionally, 43% of the restaurants stated that revenue from delivery platforms accounted for 10 to 30% of their total income, with over a third of the surveyed restaurants revealing that delivery platform income comprised more than 30% of their total revenue.

The survey also pointed out that over 40% of the interviewed restaurants anticipated a positive impact from the revival of the Hong Kong tourism industry, while over 40% expected the impact to remain unchanged. 37% of the restaurants expressed optimism about the prospects of the catering industry, surpassing the 26% from the previous quarter. Among the interviewed restaurants, 85% believed that delivery platforms would remain important in the near future and might even become more significant.

According to the report, although 47% of the restaurants are actively hiring employees, over 68% of them are facing challenges in recruitment. Sixty-one percent of the surveyed restaurants stated that using delivery platforms helped alleviate the burden of labor shortages.

Furthermore, starting from April 22, the first phase of single-use plastic product regulations commenced. Eighty-three point three percent of the restaurants believed that if delivery platforms could offer environmentally friendly tableware at discounted prices, it would alleviate concerns in the catering industry about rising costs.
