The award-winning Canadian documentary “State-Owned Organs” is currently being screened in Middletown, New York State, and will also start showing at a cinema in Sparta, New Jersey this Monday, September 30.
Directed by Raymond Zhang, a recipient of the Peabody Awards, “State-Owned Organs” tells the story of two young individuals who suddenly disappear in mainland China, with their families searching for them for years to no avail. As they embark on their search, a tightly shrouded, government-controlled atrocity is unveiled.
The film has garnered several awards, including six nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards for Best Director and Best Music, as well as the “Best Human Rights Documentary” at the Manhattan Film Festival. It is also a candidate for the Best Feature Documentary at the 2025 Oscars.
