Starbucks is closing hundreds of stores, at least 30 in California.

As part of a large-scale corporate reorganization, the chain coffee shop brand Starbucks has begun to close hundreds of stores nationwide in the United States. From the end of September to early October, many Californians found that their frequent Starbucks locations had ceased operations.

On the bustling Colorado Boulevard in Old Town Pasadena, there is a Starbucks store that attracts many people, especially during the annual Rose Parade. However, a resident named Frank mentioned that when he passed by two weeks ago, he was surprised to learn that the store would be closing at the end of September.

As of October 7 (Tuesday), the Starbucks official website’s “Find a Store” page no longer displayed information about the Starbucks store on Colorado Boulevard, which is just one of the many stores that have already closed.

On September 25, Starbucks announced that it would close 1% of its North American stores before the end of the 2025 fiscal year, totaling over 100 stores.

In a statement, Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol said that upon reviewing various Starbucks stores in North America, it was found that many stores were underperforming financially or failing to create the expected environment for customers.

Although Starbucks has not disclosed the specific addresses of the stores that will be closing, affected stores will post notices to inform customers. According to reports from multiple media outlets, at least 30 Starbucks stores in California have already closed, located in various cities including Downtown Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Torrance, Hermosa Beach, Santa Monica, Pasadena, among others.

Starbucks is currently undergoing a large-scale restructuring plan, which not only involves closing stores nationwide but also includes cutting 900 positions in the company offices.
