In a shocking case of animal cruelty in Orange County, Southern California, a 30-year-old woman named Tyler Nashae Thompson from Anaheim is facing charges of animal abuse and animal cruelty felony for placing a malnourished and flea-infested Pomeranian dog inside a plastic bag and tossing it over an 8-foot fence.
The incident was captured on surveillance video as Thompson threw the Pomeranian into the backyard of a veterinary clinic in the city. She was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty, caretaker abuse of an animal, and misdemeanor charges of concealing and destroying evidence.
If convicted on all counts, Thompson could face up to three years of imprisonment in the Orange County Jail under California law.
On the early morning of November 12th around 1:37 am, Thompson was seen leaving an apartment building on 1700 Glenoaks Avenue and tossing a plastic bag over a fence at a veterinary clinic. The bag landed on the ground, and a white Pomeranian emerged from it before Thompson returned to the apartment building.
Around 6:30 am, the owner of the veterinary clinic arrived for work and discovered the Pomeranian did not belong there. After reviewing surveillance footage, the police were contacted. The dog was severely malnourished, infested with fleas, and was missing a tooth.
The Anaheim Police Department identified the suspect through surveillance footage and arrested Thompson on November 27th. She is currently being held at the Orange County Jail with a bail set at $50,000.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer condemned the act, stating, “This poor dog endured unimaginable suffering, and the abuser had a responsibility to care for it. Only those devoid of any decency would mistreat a defenseless animal and then discard it like trash.”
The abandoned Pomeranian has been taken in by OC Animal Care for proper care. Spitzer emphasized that no act of cruelty towards vulnerable animals will be tolerated, and those who abuse animals will face strict legal consequences.
