On Thursday, May 29th, a South Korean naval patrol plane crashed in the city of Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province. The aircraft was carrying 4 people, and the number of casualties is currently unknown.
According to reports from various media outlets, on the afternoon of May 29th local time, a South Korean Navy P-3C anti-submarine patrol plane took off from a naval base near the South District of Pohang city at 1:43 pm to carry out a training mission. The plane crashed around 1:50 pm on a mountain near the military base.
The plane crashed in the mountainous area on the east coast. Witnesses reported seeing thick smoke rising from halfway up the mountain.
Images of the accident scene circulating online show a fire at the crash site. Local fire departments are working hard to extinguish the flames.
As of now, the cause of the crash is unknown. Three bodies have been found at the crash site by the fire department, but their identities are yet to be confirmed. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
