South Korea: Major Logistics Center Hit by Fire, 11 Million pieces of clothing Destroyed

Recently, in Tiana City, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea, a large-scale fashion logistics center owned by E-Land Fashion unexpectedly caught fire. The fire was completely extinguished after 60 hours with no casualties, but 11 million branded clothing and shoes were destroyed in the blaze.

According to South Korean media reports, the fire broke out at around 6:10 am on November 15th at E-Land Fashion, a fashion logistics center in Tiana City, Chungcheongnam-do. A large amount of clothing in the building fueled the flames, causing the fire to rapidly spread throughout the entire structure.

At the time of the incident, there was one security guard and two operational staff on the scene. When the alarm sounded, all three managed to escape unharmed, and there were no casualties.

By 3:31 pm that same day, the main fire was under control after approximately 9 hours and 30 minutes. At around 9:11 am on the 16th, the local fire department lifted all response levels, but cleanup of the remaining embers continued. By around 6:11 pm on the 17th, the fire was completely extinguished.

E-Land Fashion stated that they have reviewed relevant surveillance footage and are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Due to the majority of the distribution center’s facilities being destroyed by the fire and a large number of products being lost, many online orders placed by consumers have been cancelled. Approximately 11 million items of clothing, shoes, and other goods were incinerated.

It is reported that the logistics center consisted of five floors (four above ground and one below ground), with a total area of 193,210 square meters, equivalent to 27 football fields. Completed in July 2014, it was once known as the largest fashion logistics base in Asia, capable of handling up to 50,000 boxes daily and an annual processing volume ranging between 4 to 5 million boxes.
