Singapore Airlines plane makes emergency landing at Bangkok airport, 1 dead and 30 injured

Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight SQ321, flying from London Heathrow Airport to Singapore, made an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand on May 21st at 15:45 local time due to severe turbulence encountered during the flight. The incident resulted in one fatality and several injuries, with reports from multiple Thai media outlets stating that a total of 30 individuals were injured.

The flight took off from London Heathrow Airport at 10:17 pm on May 20th and was scheduled to arrive at Singapore Changi Airport around 6:10 pm the following day. However, the aircraft encountered severe turbulence and a tropical storm during the journey.

In a statement released on Facebook, Singapore Airlines mentioned, “Singapore Airlines flight #SQ321 from London (Heathrow Airport) to Singapore encountered severe turbulence on May 20, 2024. The aircraft diverted to Bangkok and landed at 15:45 local time on May 21, 2024.”

“We can confirm that there were injuries and one fatality on this Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. There were 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board.”

Singapore Airlines expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and stated that their immediate priority is to provide all possible assistance to the passengers and crew members. The company is collaborating with local authorities in Thailand to provide necessary medical support and has dispatched a team to Bangkok to offer assistance.
