Sichuan’s Liangshan hit by a 5.0 magnitude earthquake, same day earthquakes in Tibet and Xinjiang

On May 27th, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province, with a depth of 8 kilometers. Residents in areas like Xichang and Panzhihua reported feeling the tremors. On the same day, earthquakes also occurred in Tibet and Xinjiang.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, on May 27th at 11:07 a.m., Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province (latitude 28.25 degrees north, longitude 100.70 degrees east) experienced a 5.0 magnitude earthquake at a depth of 8 kilometers.

The villages within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter include Lidao, Luodou, Ranggong, Dulu, Qiongyi, and Baiyangping, with towns within a 20-kilometer radius such as Shuiluo, Wachang, and Guzeng Miao Village. The average altitude within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter is about 3316 meters.

The China Earthquake Networks Center reported that on May 27th at 7:02 a.m., a 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck Angren County, Shigatse City, Tibet (latitude 30.56 degrees north, longitude 86.31 degrees east) with a depth of 10 kilometers. At 6:19 a.m., a 3.7 magnitude earthquake hit Aheqi County, Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang (latitude 40.87 degrees north, longitude 78.25 degrees east) at a depth of 10 kilometers. In the early hours at 1:54 a.m., a 3.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in Akto County, Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang (latitude 38.29 degrees north, longitude 75.17 degrees east) with a depth of 125 kilometers.
