On September 27th, several netizens posted videos claiming that Sichuan Jiange County internet celebrity “Tang Feiji” crashed his ultralight aircraft during a live broadcast.
The footage shows the sudden loss of control of the aircraft leading to a fiery crash.
At the time of the accident, “Tang Feiji” was live streaming, and over a thousand viewers witnessed the tragic crash.
On that day, the village official where Tang Feiji resided informed several mainland media outlets that the accident had resulted in Tang Feiji’s untimely death and that his family had arrived at the accident scene to handle the aftermath.
Staff at the Jiange County Funeral Home in Sichuan mentioned that they had received a body at the scene of the accident.
The 55-year-old Tang Feiji had drawn attention for his repeated piloting of the coaxial twin-propeller ultralight aircraft he had purchased.
Reportedly, Tang Feiji had dreamed of flying since childhood, and at the age of 55, he finally fulfilled this dream by spending 350,000 RMB to buy a “coaxial twin-propeller ultralight aircraft” with a range of 40 kilometers when fully fueled and a maximum flying speed of about 100 kilometers per hour.
On the night of his first flight, he bought braised dishes and wine to celebrate. When responding to questions from netizens during the live broadcast, he denied engaging in commercial hype and stated that an ultralight aircraft did not require a pilot’s license.
Currently, his live streaming account has been set to “private.” He had 97,000 followers at the time, with 425,000 likes.
The plane crash involving Tang Feiji is not an isolated incident. On August 6th, 44-year-old flight attendant Ruan Anqiu crashed during a live broadcast. Moments before the crash, she was interacting with fans during the live stream, and at the moment of the crash, her fans initially believed it was part of a performance.
