Recently, netizens have reported in real names that China Railway Second Engineering Bureau (CREC-2) has been cutting corners and using substandard materials during construction along the Ziyang section of the railway, but their complaints to CREC-2 and Chengdu Railway Supervision and Administration Bureau have not yielded any results.
According to the whistleblower Mr. Qi, who spoke to Benliu News, he participated in the construction of the Ziyang section of the Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway by CREC-2 (from Fenghuang Bridge to Laowupo). “During the construction of the lower structure, they cut corners, with the steel bars being 40-50 centimeters shorter than specified in the blueprints.”
“To save on concrete for the pier height, they elevated the columns by more than 10 centimeters. The protective layer for the pile foundation should be 4-6 centimeters, but they made it more than 10 centimeters, cutting corners on stirrups and pier column bars,” he said.
Mr. Qi couldn’t help but question that the materials used in the project deviated from the blueprints everywhere, clearly indicating cutting corners and using substandard materials. However, such shoddy workmanship managed to pass inspections. Despite his multiple complaints to CREC-2 and Chengdu Railway Supervision and Administration Bureau, no actions have been taken, prompting him to make a public report online.
On the afternoon of January 6, a reporter from Benliu News called Chengdu Railway Supervision and Administration Bureau regarding this issue. The staff member responded, “He has lodged a complaint, and we will contact him personally to understand. This is something we cannot speak about publicly.”
Public records show that the Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway is a high-speed rail line connecting Chengdu, Sichuan Province, with Wanzhou District, Chongqing City, cutting through the Sichuan Basin. It is an important part of China’s “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed railway network as part of the “Yangtze River Corridor,” with a mainline length of 477 kilometers and a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Construction officially commenced on September 30, 2022, with a total investment of 85.1 billion yuan.
