Sichuan Airlines Chengdu-Xiamen Flight Diverts to Guilin Due to Smoke in Cabin

On December 1st, the news of a Sichuan Airlines flight from Chengdu to Xiamen which made an emergency landing in Guilin before continuing its journey to Xiamen has caught attention. Customer service staff of the airline confirmed that the flight did indeed make an emergency landing in Guilin.

Reports and videos circulating online showed that on the evening of November 30th, flight 3U8925 bound for Xiamen, Fujian, experienced a significant amount of smoke inside the cabin, with the smoke getting increasingly dense. Passengers in the affected area were seen stepping back into the aisles, while others observed from their seats. Flight attendants worked to calm passengers before repeatedly venturing to the smoky areas to assist.

Late on December 1st, Sichuan Airlines responded on their official Weibo account, stating that on November 30th, flight 3U8925 from Chengdu to Xiamen experienced smoke from a passenger’s portable power bank. The cabin crew and security team responded promptly and effectively controlled the situation, preventing any further impact on cabin safety and order.

Sichuan Airlines emphasized that in order to ensure flight safety, the crew followed procedures, the aircraft made a safe emergency landing in Guilin at 18:38, completed necessary safety checks, and then took off again to safely land in Xiamen at 21:29 that same night.
