Shooting Near New York City Police Headquarters Leaves One Dead, One Injured, Suspect Still at Large

On the evening of Saturday, October 12, 2024, a shooting incident occurred near a government building in Manhattan’s Chinatown, resulting in one fatality and one injury. The suspect is currently at large. Due to the proximity of the shooting to the headquarters of the city police department, which is just about a street away, law enforcement has increased patrols in the surrounding community.

According to police sources, the NYPD received a 911 call at 7:14 p.m. on Saturday reporting a shooting at the intersection of Madison Street and Saint James Place in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The location falls within the jurisdiction of the NYPD’s 5th Precinct, located just a street away from the police headquarters.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement found two males shot – one with a gunshot wound to the neck and another, a 30-year-old male, with gunshot wounds to the lower body. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived and transported the two victims to Bellevue Hospitals in New York City for urgent medical care.

The male with the neck gunshot wound was in critical condition and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries after efforts to save him at the hospital. The other male is in stable condition and is currently receiving treatment. As of the time of this report, the authorities have not released the identities of the victims.

The case is under investigation, and no suspects have been arrested yet. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in solving the case.
