Shooting Near Golf Course, Campaign Team: Trump is Safe

Republican presidential candidate Trump’s campaign team said on Sunday (September 15) that there was a shooting incident near Trump, but he is safe.

The spokesman for Trump’s campaign team, Steven Cheung, said in a statement, “President Trump was near a shooting incident, but he is safe. Currently, there are no further details available.”

CNN reported that the former president was playing golf at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. A source familiar with the situation said the golf course was immediately locked down after the shooting incident.

The Secret Service stated on the social media platform X that they are cooperating with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a protection event involving Trump. The Secret Service said the incident occurred before 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The New York Post quoted law enforcement officials as saying that a shooting occurred near Trump when he left the golf club. The Secret Service is responding to the incident.

Sources told The New York Post that two people exchanged gunfire outside the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. The gunman’s target was the other person involved in the exchange of fire, not Trump.

However, the AP reported that it is currently unclear whether the reported shooting incident was targeting this Republican presidential candidate.

Just over two months ago, Trump was the target of an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania, which resulted in an injury to his ear. This was the first shooting incident targeting a U.S. president, former president, or major party presidential candidate in over forty years – highlighting a significant security loophole that led to Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation as the head of the Secret Service under pressure from both parties in Congress.
