At the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony on the evening of Sunday, the local time, Disney FX emerged as the big winner, with its dramas “Shogun” and comedies “The Bear Restaurant” taking home 18 and 11 Emmy Awards respectively this year.
The Emmy Awards, widely known as the “TV Oscars”, saw FX’s drama series “Shogun” winning a total of 18 awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Leading Actor and Actress, and Best Director. This success added to the 14 Creative Arts Emmy Awards that the series had won the previous week, making it the program with the most awards in a single season.
In a historic first, “Shogun” became the first non-English language series to win the award for Best Drama Series. Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada and Japanese-British actress Anna Sawai won Best Actor and Actress awards respectively, marking their first Emmy wins in their careers.
Anna Sawai made history by becoming the first Asian female actor to win the Best Actress award for a drama series at the Emmy Awards, while Hiroyuki Sanada became the second Asian actor to win the Best Actor award.
FX’s comedy series “The Bear Restaurant” broke the record by winning 11 awards this year, including Best Leading Actor, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, and Director. American actor Jeremy Allen White won the Best Leading Actor award for the second consecutive year for his role in the FX comedy series.
HBO | Max’s comedy series “Hacks” won the award for Best Comedy Series, with American actress Jean Smart winning the Best Actress award for her role in the series. This marked her third win in the Best Actress category and sixth Emmy award in her career.
In a surprising turn of events, American actor Lamorne Morris won the Best Supporting Actor award for a Mini-Series or TV Movie for his performance in “Fargo”, beating out competitors from “The Sympathizer” and “Fellow Travelers”.
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will be re-broadcast on Hulu on September 16th, US Eastern Time.
