Recently, in the Baoneng Global Huili Xili Store in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, a handrail escalator suddenly malfunctioned with a loud noise, and a step “flew up,” causing onlookers to exclaim that it “almost injured someone.” According to customer service personnel at the mall, the escalator malfunctioned at that time.
On September 7, a netizen posted a video claiming that at the Baoneng Global Huili Xili Store in Shenzhen, a step on one of the escalators “almost injured someone” with a loud noise, and upon turning around, the escalator step was seen lifted up.
The video shows the bottom step of the escalator lifting up, attracting a large crowd of bystanders.
The netizen commented in the reply section that the incident occurred at the Baoneng Global Huili Xili Store and fortunately, no one was injured.
According to a report by the “Southern Metropolis Daily,” customer service personnel at the Baoneng Global Huili Xili Store confirmed that the escalator did malfunction, but no injuries were reported, and maintenance work is currently being carried out.
Malfunctions in escalators within mainland shopping malls and supermarkets, resulting in customer injuries and scares, have been reported frequently.
On April 4 this year, a woman in her thirties in Shanghai was shopping at a supermarket in Fengxian District and got caught in a handrail escalator, causing her to scream for help on the spot. Due to the complex structure of the escalator, it took over 30 minutes for her to be rescued.
The video shows the woman stepping onto the moving escalator, only to find that there was a gap below, causing her lower body to get stuck. Bystanders immediately pressed the stop button, while the trapped woman frantically cried for help. Due to the unfamiliarity with the complex structure of the escalator, onlookers hesitated to take any action.
After more than 30 minutes of rescue efforts, the woman was freed and taken to the hospital.
The woman’s husband revealed that “the skin and flesh have separated, the wound area is relatively large, there is a risk of infection, and if the infection is severe, there is a risk of amputation.”
Reportedly, the woman underwent surgery and is now in the intensive care unit.
