Last year, 22-year-old Wang Yangyang from Shenyang, Liaoning Province, was deceived by her wealthy and handsome boyfriend to Thailand and has been held captive at the Kai Xuan Gardens in Myanmar’s Myawaddy for over 8 months.
According to Wang Yangyang’s mother’s post on social media, her daughter initially told her that she was going to Beijing and Shanghai with friends for a trip, and then maintained contact with her weekly. During this time, her daughter mentioned a wealthy and handsome man with good conditions. Wang’s mother, considering her daughter was already an adult and might not listen even if she objected, did not intervene. “One day, her phone just turned off suddenly,” she said.
“I later learned through her friend that on December 17th last year, she flew from Shanghai to Hong Kong, and then disappeared. Her best friend said my daughter left with a man at the airport. I feel she left with that boyfriend. She was probably deceived by those pretending to be wealthy and handsome,” Wang Yangyang’s mother wrote.
On August 11th, several mainland Chinese media outlets reported that Wang Yangyang’s mother, Mrs. Wang, said it was her second daughter who had an incident. Having graduated from high school and not yet attended university, Wang Yangyang was originally planning to study abroad. In mid-December 2024, she lost contact with her daughter, and later learned from her daughter’s friend that Wang Yangyang and her boyfriend took a plane from Shanghai to Hong Kong for shopping, which made her realize something might have happened. Therefore, on January 13th, 2025, she reported to the Huangpu Sub-bureau of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau. It was confirmed that Wang Yangyang did arrive in Hong Kong on December 17th.
On January 15th, Mrs. Wang went to the Baogong Police Station of the Tiexi Sub-bureau of the Shenyang Municipal Public Security Bureau where their household was registered and reported the incident. It was found that Wang Yangyang entered Thailand on December 17th and has not left since then.
After seeking help from various sources, it was discovered that Wang Yangyang checked into a hotel in Mae Sot, Thailand, upon arrival and was then escorted in a military vehicle directly to the Kai Xuan Gardens in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
Mrs. Wang stated that her daughter briefly contacted her through Xiaohongshu (a social media platform), “They forced her to do telecommunications fraud there. She should be under control because access to Xiaohongshu requires a computer, and she could post messages there. She left me several messages; she said she was in this garden at every time between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., but she needed to delete them immediately to avoid detection.”
In Xiaohongshu, Wang Yangyang told Mrs. Wang that she had been with Wang Xing and Yang Zeqi in an office and could contact them for help.
Mrs. Wang stated that she has contacted the rescued model, Yang Zeqi, who confirmed that she had seen Wang Yangyang in the garden. At the end of December 2024, 25-year-old Chinese model Yang Zeqi was deceived into a fraud garden in Myanmar. On January 7th, 2025, actor Wang Xing was rescued from the fraud garden in Myanmar, followed by Yang Zeqi on January 12th.
Mrs. Wang described herself as a retired single mother and mentioned that a volunteer team is currently trying to help rescue Wang Yangyang. She was preparing to go to the local police station to obtain a case receipt, hoping that with the help of volunteers and the police, they can bring her daughter back safely.
