On December 9, 2025, about eight unjustly treated individuals from Shenyang, Liaoning, gathered at the Bao Gong Temple in Kaifeng, Henan, collectively kneeling on the ground and crying out for injustice. They hoped for a modern-day Bao Qingtian to bring them fairness and justice.
Eight individuals from Shenyang, Liaoning, felt they were victims of wrongful judgments by the Shenyang court, leaving them with no recourse for appeal. Remembering Bao Gong’s impartiality in handling cases, they sought out the Bao Gong Temple in Kaifeng, Henan, to request fairness and justice, wishing for a contemporary Bao Qingtian.
Their outcry of “injustice, injustice!” attracted onlookers, prompting staff at the tourist site to quickly intervene and prohibit photography.
On March 10 last year, within the Bao Gong Temple in Kaifeng, a woman in an orange-red top knelt in front of the main hall due to an unjust legal case, gripping the railing with hands and crying loudly, unable to contain herself for a long time. This drew the attention of visitors and sparked a wave of “crying temple” incidents.
The “crying temple” incident raised concerns among local authorities. On March 15, the statue of Bao Gong was removed from the park. A day later, a notice was put up in the park announcing that “the park is temporarily closed for internal construction and maintenance.” People joked, saying, “Bao Gong is being treated as an unstable element and being controlled.”
Gu Guoping, a retired professor from Shanghai University and a rights activist, expressed, “For the victims of injustice to be driven to seek help from Bao Zheng, who passed away a century ago, it is a testament to how the ruling party, which once boasted of working for the welfare of the working people, allowed its people to reach a point where they have nowhere to seek redress. This kind of ruling party is truly despicable and shameless! How can they shamelessly claim to be righteous? Is this what they call their great achievements?”
