Under the purge within the CCP military-industrial complex, the helm of the military-industrial giant China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has changed hands. According to the company’s official website, the former General Manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Shen Yanfeng, has been promoted to Chairman of the Board and Secretary of the Party Committee. The previous Chairman and Party Committee Secretary, Yu Jianfeng, is no longer listed in the leadership roster. He has been absent for over 4 months, with no official announcement regarding his whereabouts.
CNNC, mainly engaged in nuclear military, nuclear power, and nuclear fuel businesses, is a super-large central enterprise.
Public records indicate that Shen Yanfeng, 53 years old and from Jilin province, previously served as the General Manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Jiangsu Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. In 2020, he was transferred to CNNC as Deputy General Manager, and in April 2024, he assumed the positions of Director, General Manager, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee.
The former 59-year-old Chairman, Yu Jianfeng, had a long tenure at CNNC, starting as Deputy General Manager. He later served as Deputy General Manager of State Power Investment Group and General Manager of State Development & Investment Corporation before returning to CNNC as General Manager in 2017, eventually becoming Chairman in 2018.
Chairman Yu Jianfeng did not appear during the “consolation” activities over the Chinese New Year period this year. Prior to this, he was absent from an internal anti-corruption meeting at CNNC on January 17. Observers speculate that Yu Jianfeng may have encountered trouble.
According to CNNC’s official website leadership page, the position of General Manager is currently vacant, with Ma Wenjun, Zhang Kai, Xin Feng, and Chen Junli serving as Deputy General Managers.
At the end of last year, Liu Jianping, former Director and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Aluminum Corporation of China, was transferred to CNNC to serve as Director and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee.
Over the past year, multiple high-ranking officials from military-industrial giants have been ousted or gone missing, involving corporations like China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, China Ordnance Industry Group, Aviation Industry Corporation of China, China Electronics Technology Group, and CNNC. Some of the missing individuals have been replaced at their original positions, but their dismissal has not been officially announced, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
Independent commentator Du Zheng wrote an article on March 8 in Taiwan’s media “UpMedia,” stating that the current trend in the CCP’s officialdom is “internal handling,” with many individuals secretly sentenced or even executed.
