The news that in the Shuocheng District of Shanxi Shuozhou City, parents claimed that the school was deserted when they went to collect their children’s student ID cards has sparked a heated discussion in society and has become a hot topic on social media.
According to the report by the Urban Times on September 2nd, on August 29, a parent in Shuozhou, Shanxi, went to their child’s school to pick up their child’s student ID card only to find that the school had long been deserted.
The parent said, “One day, we suddenly heard other parents saying that the school was closing down, but the school had never officially notified us. It was not until yesterday (August 28) when the class teacher informed us through the class group that we could come to collect the student ID cards, that we found the entire school empty.”
The parent expressed that if the school was closing, there should have been a formal notice, including whether there was a transfer plan in place. However, the school did not inform them, so they had to arrange for their child to transfer to another school without delay.
On the evening of September 1, the Education Bureau of Shuocheng District in Shuozhou City issued a briefing on the situation, stating that the school is currently in a state of ceasing operations.
The briefing stated that the school had not previously submitted an application to the competent authority nor notified parents in writing.
This incident has sparked discussions online, with netizens commenting on the situation.
“I am also 100 years old” commented, “My child had already started attending a new school when we were informed that the original school had closed down. If we hadn’t heard from others, it would have been too late for my child to transfer. This year, two schools in the vicinity, including my child’s school, have shut down.”
“Laughing letter nine looking for you,” asked, “Kindergartens have been closing in large numbers. Is it now the turn of elementary schools to face closures?”
“Li Hao A” remarked, “As long as nobody finds out, they can pretend like nothing happened. If your child goes to such a place, no one would know! It’s okay if they manage to return home, but those who don’t want to might just disappear.”
“Life’s journey needs you to come along” expressed, “The declining birth rate has wide-ranging effects, affecting not only kindergartens but creating a ripple effect every three years, impacting elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as universities. In 12 years, universities could potentially be almost half empty.”
“Locke Millet 0” observed, “Many small county towns are empty, with only around 2000 people left in a county town, and only one school remains… Slowly, many issues will begin to surface.”
