Hollywood actress Jennifer Lopez attended the premiere of her new sci-fi film “Atlas” in Mexico City on the 21st. In the movie, she plays a top data analyst who declares war on rebellious artificial intelligence (AI) robots aiming to destroy humanity.
On the 22nd, 54-year-old singer and actress Jennifer Lopez told The Hollywood Reporter, “Overall, ‘Atlas’ is the most complex film I have ever worked on.” She mentioned that while movies like “Avatar” have created complex imaginary worlds, “Atlas” surpasses them with its blend of reality and imagination.
In the trailer, Lopez’s character, Atlas Shepherd, works for the government and is a talented yet cynical top data analyst who distrusts AI. She becomes involved in a mission to capture a rebellious robot, revealing a mysterious past connection with the machine.
The rebellious AI entity, Harlan, created by human technology, poses an existential threat to humanity, as it coldly asserts, “Don’t worry, we are your upgrade.” This statement instills a sense of oppression and helplessness in humans.
When Atlas’s plan to destroy the AI entity falters, her spaceship is attacked during the pursuit, leading to a crash landing on a dangerous alien planet. Confronted with the desolate and perilous surroundings, Atlas expresses her aversion to AI, telling the AI Smith robot, “I don’t need your help, I don’t trust any AI.”
As Harlan’s destructive actions escalate worldwide, Earth faces impending devastation. With conditions worsening and Harlan closing in, in a crucial moment, Smith finally states, “Atlas, if you don’t trust me, this plan will fail.”
In the end, Atlas realizes that the only way to secure humanity’s future and survival is to join forces with Smith and confront AI Harlan. She agrees to collaborate with Smith to eliminate Harlan, with the fate of humanity resting in Atlas’s hands and the Smith robot she controls.
In addition to Lopez’s role, the film features Simu Liu from “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” as the main antagonist, the rebellious AI robot Harlan.
“Atlas” premiered globally on Netflix on May 24th.
