Arc-shaped cumulonimbus clouds usually appear on the leading edge of stormy rainfall, indicating increased wind force and sudden changes in wind direction, signaling the imminent arrival of severe convective weather. At 16:31 on the 8th, the Shanghai Meteorological Observatory successively issued yellow warnings for thunderstorms, hail, heavy rain, and strong winds.
Photos shared by netizens located in Fengxian, Shanghai showed dark clouds looming over the district. Netizens in Songjiang Xincheng District of Shanghai also commented, “The sky over Songjiang University City was pitch black by five in the afternoon.”
A viral video showed a strong thunderstorm cloud descending upon Shanghai, turning daytime into darkness in an instant, accompanied by brief heavy rain, lightning, strong winds, and hail in multiple areas. This resulted in significant waterlogging in Baoshan and other places, with some areas experiencing hailstorms.
Netizens reported, “I saw lightning and heard thunder in Baoshan from Hongkou.” “I was delivering takeout at the time, and it really seemed like the sky was leaking, in bursts like pouring water.” “By the time I got off work, the roads had turned into rivers.”
