Shanghai heavy rain continues, celebrities’ homes turning into “water curtain caves”

Recently, heavy rain has been persisting in Shanghai, leading to traffic disruptions and flooding in citizens’ homes. Celebrities like Chen He and Chen Long who reside in high-rise apartments have experienced leaks in their homes, turning their residences into “water curtains,” sparking widespread attention and discussion among netizens.

The heavy rain in Shanghai has caused widespread water accumulation in many areas. Subway station entrances, shopping mall entryways, residential communities, and other places have all experienced flooding, forcing pedestrians to wade through water and vehicles to move slowly through the water. For residents living in low-lying areas, home flooding has become a common occurrence. Residents have been seen using buckets to scoop water out of their homes.

Residents living in high-rise buildings face the additional headache of dealing with leaking roofs. Actors Chen He and Chen Long took to social media to share videos showcasing the leaking issues in their homes.

On June 30th, actor Chen He posted a video on Weibo showing multiple areas of leaks in his home. In the video, water continuously dripped from the ceiling of Chen He’s home, prompting him to use plastic buckets to catch the water, presenting a rather awkward scene.

Chen He expressed helplessness, saying, “When it rains in Shanghai, it becomes a giant waterfall.” He further mentioned that his home felt like a “water curtain hole,” evoking thoughts of Flower Fruit Mountain from “Journey to the West.”

Chen He’s video drew attention and sympathy from a large number of netizens who empathized with his household leaking situation.

One netizen remarked, “So even luxury homes have leaks.”

Another actor, Chen Long, also shared his own experience of home leaks on social media. In his video, Chen Long held a large umbrella inside his home as he walked around inspecting the leaks. Under the umbrella, Chen Long appeared somewhat resigned, joking, “I’m holding an umbrella at home, feeling like I’m camping outdoors.”

Many Shanghai residents faced similar issues during this heavy rain, mirroring the challenges encountered by Chen He and Chen Long. The leaking problems in high-rise buildings are often related to the quality of construction and drainage systems.

In the face of heavy rain, especially in some aged and poorly maintained old residential areas, issues such as drainage system aging and building material deterioration become more severe. When faced with heavy rain, leaking problems become particularly prominent. For residents, this not only affects daily life but also poses safety hazards.

Citizens have had to take matters into their own hands. Many residents have prepared various waterproof tools at home, such as plastic buckets, towels, and tape, to promptly deal with leaks during rainy periods.
