A high school senior in Tancheng County, Linyi City, Shandong Province, is suspected to have died by suicide on the evening of November 29 after enduring long-term bullying at school. Following the tragic incident, the family, dissatisfied with the school’s concealment of the truth and protection of the bullies, took the coffin to the school gate to hold them accountable and seek justice.
According to online revelations and a post by the deceased student’s uncle, the bullying student was named Xu Yang, a 17-year-old senior at Tancheng No.1 High School. He excelled academically and scored over 600 points on a mock college entrance exam.
It is reported that he could have been admitted to a good school next year, but due to losing his parents at a young age and growing up with his grandmother, he became the target of bullying led by a classmate named Yan. He was mocked as an “orphan,” isolated, and ignored by the homeroom teacher, which led to his mental breakdown. He tragically fell to his death from the 18th floor of a building in a residential area across from the school on the night of November 29.
Before his death, Xu Yang left a message to his grandmother and uncle, saying, “Thank you for taking care of me for 17 years, but I must go find my mother now.”
After Xu Yang’s death, the school did not immediately inform the family. When Xu Yang’s uncle went to the school to inquire, he was stopped by the security guard at the gate and not allowed to enter. Only after numerous requests did the school inform him to go to the police station.
Upon learning of the child’s death, Xu Yang’s uncle demanded the truth in a WeChat group, but the homeroom teacher refused to respond and disbanded the parent group.
Feeling helpless, Xu Yang’s uncle brought the coffin to the school gate by car, demanding answers and accountability from the school, but he was accused by the school of “obstructing traffic.”
A circulating video online shows Xu Yang’s uncle at the school gate with many banners and broadcasting advocacy messages through a loudspeaker, while several special police officers were present for “stability maintenance.”
The incident has drawn widespread attention online, with many netizens expressing, “The law should be a talisman for good people, not a shield for bad ones! Bullies must be severely punished and those in charge held accountable!”
As reported by Benliu News on December 2, the police have now intervened in the investigation. However, details of the bullying have not been disclosed to the public.
