On February 6, the 9th day of the Lunar New Year, Wang Bo, a 55-year-old instructor from the 2nd Squadron of the Traffic Police Brigade of Boxing County Public Security Bureau in Shandong Province, was tragically killed while conducting a drunk driving inspection. He was hit and thrown by a driver without a license who accelerated his vehicle to evade the checkpoint. Despite rescue efforts, Wang Bo succumbed to his injuries.
According to reports by Red Star News, on the afternoon of February 6, Wang Bo, accompanied by auxiliary police Zhang Weibo, public service worker Liu Xingyong, and four others, set up a checkpoint near Beidongfeng Village Railway Bridge in Jinqiu Street Office of Boxing County to crack down on drunk driving and other traffic violations.
At 15:20, a black sedan traveling from east to west entered the inspection area. The driver, without a license, attempted to evade inspection and abruptly accelerated into the opposite lane to break through the checkpoint.
As Wang Bo approached the front of the vehicle, signaling for it to stop, the car continued to accelerate directly towards him. Before he could react, Wang Bo was struck and thrown by the vehicle, landing heavily on the ground. The vehicle kept speeding forward, knocking down Liu Xingyong and Zhang Weibo, hitting another oncoming vehicle and parking cones before coming to a stop.
After being rushed to the hospital, Wang Bo was pronounced dead due to his injuries. Liu Xingyong sustained head injuries, while Zhang Weibo suffered a fracture, both fortunately without life-threatening conditions.
The suspect was immediately apprehended at the scene and is currently under criminal detention.
Wang Bo joined the workforce in 1990 and became a police officer through a recruitment examination in 1995.
Throughout his career, Wang Bo has served in various positions including Qiaozhuang Police Station, Boxing County Detention Center, Public Security Brigade, Special Patrol Police Brigade, and Traffic Police Brigade.
