“The ‘Shandong Baby Abduction Case’ was heard in the Tai’an Intermediate Court on April 2. Family members of the abducted baby Jiang Jaru reconstructed the scene of the crime.
In 2006, Jiang Jaru’s parents were out working while his grandparents were taking care of him and his sibling at their home in Wangzhuang Town, Feicheng City, Shandong province, as reported by Jimo News and the Beijing News.
Jiang Jaru’s mother, Qiao Shoufen, recalled that in the early hours of December 3, several men suddenly broke into their house. Jiang Jaru’s grandfather struggled to resist but was dragged to the kitchen and beaten, his face held down by a foot, rendering him unable to move. His grandmother attempted to call for help but was threatened by one of the intruders with a steel rod to her throat.
With tears in her eyes, Jiang Jaru’s grandmother said, ‘They beat the child’s grandpa until he was covered in blood, even his eyeballs were crushed out! I was held at steel rod-point and couldn’t even shout for help, just watched helplessly as they took away my grandson.’
After snatching Jiang Jaru, the perpetrators locked the door behind them, preventing the elderly couple from following them.
Following the incident, Jiang Jaru’s grandfather was haunted by guilt for not being able to protect his grandson and passed away in depression seven years later. Jiang Jaru also endured a difficult life with the ‘buyers’ until finally returning home in January 2024. The four suspects, Zeng, Lv, Wang, and Yuan, were apprehended last year.
The case was in court at 9:30 am on April 2 in the Tai’an Intermediate Court, with the trial concluding at 6:30 pm, while the court announced a future sentencing date.
During the court hearing, Zeng, Wang, and Yuan denied their previous confessions to the police. Lv, while admitting guilt, provided differing testimonies from what was previously stated.
Adding to Qiao Shoufen’s distress, the child was sold to Jining, a mere 75 kilometers away from their home, prompting her countless searches in the area. What’s more, one of the suspects, Yuan, was their neighbor, residing just a few hundred meters away.
As reported by the Yangtze Evening News, Qiao Shoufen became emotional in court and scolded the four defendants. After the trial, she fainted outside the courthouse due to emotional distress and was taken to the hospital.
Qiao Shoufen expressed that the suspects showed no remorse, even trembling their legs in court, sparking her extreme anger and pleading for the judge to sentence them to death.”
