The Thai government stated on Monday (August 26th) that the monsoon rains have triggered flash floods and mudslides, resulting in at least 22 deaths and 19 injuries. Some provinces are at risk of further flooding, affecting 30,000 households.
Last week, severe storms ravaged several provinces in Thailand. In the southern Phuket Island, mudslides claimed the lives of 13 people, including a Russian couple and nine migrant workers from neighboring Myanmar.
The newly appointed Thai Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, visited the affected residents in Nan province in northern Thailand over the weekend, distributing relief supplies to them.
The Thai Ministry of Transport reported that a tunnel collapsed at a Thai-China railway construction project site in Nakhon Ratchasima, northeastern Thailand, leaving three workers trapped. Rescue teams are working to extract them from the rubble.
Five provinces in the north, including Chiang Rai, Sukhothai, and Phrae, are still experiencing severe flooding. The water level in areas near the Chao Phraya River, including the capital Bangkok, is at risk of rising, but currently remains within manageable levels.
