On September 27, a netizen reported that the director of student affairs at Baoshan Technician College in Yunnan was driving under the influence and hit three students. Following the incident, school staff stated that the driver’s identity, the extent of the students’ injuries, and whether alcohol was involved would be based on official reports.
A viral video circulating online showed a sedan surrounded by numerous students on the campus of Baoshan Technician College at night, with occasional gasps heard from the crowd.
A source informed Jixu News on September 29 that the accident occurred at Baoshan Technician College on the evening of the 27th, resulting in injured students being taken to the hospital.
A staff member from Baoshan Technician College informed Daxi News on the 29th that local public security and traffic police had already intervened on the 28th. They stated, “It is certain that the individual (the driver) is currently not the director of student affairs. As for the extent of student injuries and the question of driving under the influence on campus, official reports will have the accurate information.”
A reporter from Xinjing News learned from relevant departments in Longyang District, Baoshan City, that staff at the vocational school reported the suspect to be a school employee. Officials from Baoshan City Education Bureau mentioned that some students were lightly injured and sent to the hospital, and the matter is currently under investigation.
According to Jixu News, personnel from the discipline inspection department of Baoshan Technician College confirmed the occurrence of the aforementioned traffic accident. They mentioned that the college’s discipline inspection department had already initiated an investigation and is awaiting further instructions for handling from higher authorities. When asked about the identity of the perpetrator and the condition of the injured students, the staff member declined to provide details.
Reporters from Daxi News contacted Baoshan City Education Bureau, where staff mentioned, “We were aware of the online public opinion yesterday (28th) and are currently verifying the relevant information.”
