Series of Earthquakes Hit Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Yunnan; Quake Sensations Reported in Multiple Areas

In the late night of July 25 to the early morning of July 26, earthquakes struck consecutively in Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, Alxa League in Inner Mongolia, and Puer City in Yunnan Province, causing noticeable tremors as reported by many netizens.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, a 3.1-magnitude earthquake occurred at 23:23 on July 25 in Subei County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, with a depth of 38 kilometers. Shortly after, at 1:02 on July 26, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake hit Alashan Left Banner in Alxa League, Inner Mongolia, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located at 38.24 degrees north latitude and 104.02 degrees east longitude, 91 kilometers from Minqin County in Gansu, 118 kilometers from Jingtai County in Gansu, 126 kilometers from Liangzhou District in Gansu, 129 kilometers from Shapotou District in Ningxia, 131 kilometers from Gulang County in Gansu, 126 kilometers from Wuwei City in Gansu, and 197 kilometers from Yinchuan City.

Many internet users whose IP locations indicate Ningxia and Gansu expressed their experiences, such as “The tremor in Ningxia was really noticeable,” “Yongchang County felt obvious tremors,” “It shook me awake directly, and the shaking lasted for at least half a minute,” “The tremors in Gansu were noticeable,” “Strong tremors felt in Yinchuan,” “Wuwei in Gansu, woke me up directly,” “In Wuwei, my cabinet rattled noisily,” “The tremor was very strong and widespread. Normally, when there are tremors in Xingqing and Huining districts in Yinchuan, we don’t feel it in Helan at all. Additionally, at 5:31 on July 26, a 3.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in Ninger County, Pu’er City, Yunnan Province, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was at 23.16 degrees north latitude and 101.12 degrees east longitude. Yunnan netizens reported, “It shook me awake,” “The window rattled and startled me.”

According to the rapid reporting catalog of the China Earthquake Networks Center, within a radius of 200 kilometers from the epicenter, there have been a total of 54 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above in the past five years. The largest earthquake was a 6.0-magnitude quake that struck Laos on December 24, 2021, located 109 kilometers from the epicenter of this recent earthquake.
