New York State Assembly Aging Committee Chairman Ron Kim announced on April 19 that he has secured resources for seniors, small businesses, and the Asian community in the state budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year. As the chairman of the state council on aging, he is responsible for overseeing a budget of $255 million, which will be used to help seniors have dignified and independent retirement plans and services.
Part of the state budget related to aging work includes $10 million for expanding the Expanded In-Home Services for the Elderly Program (EISEP), $2.5 million for the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP), $1.4 million for the Holocaust Survivors Initiative, $1 million for Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC), $700,000 allocated to the LISMA Foundation to help address social isolation and loneliness among the elderly, and $8.2 million for various other programs.
Kim is the founder of the State Assembly’s Asian Pacific Islander Task Force and, along with other state assembly members, has secured $30 million to help combat hate crimes and support crisis intervention centers in the Asian community.
He also introduced a bill (A09772) to protect homeowners from illegal occupants.
Kim stated that he listens to the concerns of voters, talks to small business owners affected by commercial theft, and family caregivers facing overtime work. He brings the issues raised by voters back to the state council and makes every effort to secure a budget to effectively address these problems. He looks forward to continuing to serve the constituents of the 40th district in the State Assembly.
