On the evening of June 15th, a Secret Service agent in the United States was involved in an armed robbery while President Biden was visiting Los Angeles and attending a star-studded fundraising event. The Secret Service Communications Director, Anthony Guglielmi, stated that the agent fired back during the incident, but it is unclear if any attackers were hit. The agent himself was unharmed, but his backpack was stolen.
“This is a criminal case still under investigation, and any further comments should be made by the Tustin Police Department, who is primarily responsible for the investigation,” said Guglielmi in a statement on June 17. “If the public has any more information about this case, they are welcome to contact the Tustin Police Department.”
The Tustin Police Department revealed that the robbery took place in the Tustin Fields I residential area, with a report received at 9:36 p.m. on June 17. “In this incident, there was a shooting involving the (Secret Service) agent,” but the authorities were unable to locate the suspect.
Some of the agent’s personal belongings were found nearby, and the case is still under investigation.
The suspect vehicle is described as a silver 2004-2006 Infiniti FX35 or a similar model, with witnesses seeing the vehicle leaving the scene. The Tustin Police Department has released photos of the vehicle but has not confirmed if the robbed agent is affiliated with the President’s Secret Service.
At the time, Biden was attending a fundraising event in the area hosted by late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel. Celebrities such as George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and former President Barack Obama were present at the fundraiser, while comedians Sherry Lee Ralph and Jack Black performed during the event.
During the fundraising event held at the Peacock Theater, Kimmel engaged in conversations with Biden and Obama, where they discussed leading the latest swing state polls over former President Donald Trump. Biden joined the event after concluding the G7 summit in southern Italy.
The fundraiser raised $30 million, breaking the record set by Obama and Bill Clinton in Manhattan in March of $26 million.
Last week, Trump also held fundraisers in California, raising a total of $33.5 million through several events, with $12.5 million raised in San Francisco alone.
