Seattle police said on Friday (August 15) that in a shocking midday jewelry store robbery, thieves took only about 90 seconds to snatch around $2 million worth of diamonds, luxury watches, gold, and other items.
Surveillance footage showed that on Thursday, four masked suspects used a hammer to break the locked glass front door of a jewelry store in west Seattle, then ransacked six display cases.
Authorities stated in a press release that the suspects made off with a Rolex watch valued at about $750,000 from one display case, and a $125,000 emerald necklace from another.
Police reported that one of the masked suspects threatened workers with bear spray and a Taser, but no injuries were sustained.
They also mentioned that they responded to the robbery, but the suspects had already fled in a car, eluding the police search in the area.
Josh Menashe, vice president of the family-owned store, said in a phone call on Friday that the staff had cleaned up the broken glass and were conducting a full inventory of the losses. He also stated, “Our employees were severely frightened, and we will be closing for some time.”
