Sean Penn and Tom Cruise’s Friendship Endures, Once Running Buddies

Recently, two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn, who has been in the film industry for nearly 50 years, recalled his time working with Tom Cruise, calling him a great companion for jogging. Dakota Johnson, known for her role as “Spider-Woman,” mentioned that Sean was her neighbor and once forgot to take his flip-flops, leaving them in her house for three months.

Sean Penn, famous for his roles in movies like “Mystic River” and “Into the Wild,” has had a long-standing friendship with Tom Cruise, also known as “Tom Cruise.” According to a report by People magazine, on June 18th, Sean reminisced about filming their first military thriller movie “Taps” together in 1982. At that time, both actors were just supporting roles.

At the age of 63, Sean shared, “Tom and I returned to California after the movie was completed, and we spent a lot of time together.” He mentioned that they used to be great jogging partners during that time.

In other interviews, Sean has also recalled his friendship with Tom Cruise. In 2015, during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Sean talked about filming “Taps” saying, “We made a movie together, which was essentially my first movie… We spent time together at Valley Forge in Pennsylvania.” Sean even took Tom Cruise to visit Lucille Ball’s home to introduce him to Hollywood.

Tom Cruise has also expressed his admiration for Sean Penn. In Curtis Armstrong’s 2017 memoir “Revenge of the Nerd,” it was mentioned that Tom Cruise greatly admires Sean. Tom Cruise confessed to Armstrong that he was impressed by Sean’s talent and even believed that Sean was the greatest actor of their generation despite it being in 1982.

Sean’s latest movie “Black Flies” is set to be released in Taiwan on June 21st. The film follows medical student “Ollie” who is forced to become an EMT to make ends meet. Paired with veteran EMT “Kim” (played by Sean Penn), they navigate the perilous streets of New York City. Ollie, who initially underestimated the job, witnesses the harsh realities faced by EMTs.

Additionally, Sean Penn and “Spider-Woman” actress Dakota Johnson star in the upcoming film “Daddio,” which is scheduled for release in the United States on June 28th. The movie revolves around a lady (played by Dakota) who engages in a conversation with a taxi driver (played by Sean) about significant relationships in life during a taxi ride from Kennedy Airport.

Interestingly, Dakota Johnson revealed during an interview on the 10th that Sean was her neighbor before filming “Daddio.” Laughing, the 34-year-old actress shared, “Sean is my neighbor. He would come over for brunch, sometimes wearing flip-flops, which was unexpected for me as well. Then, he left these shoes at my place for about three months. Everyone was asking, whose shoes are these?”

Dakota also mentioned that the filming of “Daddio” lasted for 16 days, with long hours spent shooting in a taxi. She felt like she and Sean were in their own small world during the filming process.
