San Francisco activates level 2 emergency response as multiple large events are held over the weekend.

This weekend, San Francisco will host several large-scale events to ensure citizens’ safety. On February 14th, the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management (DEM) announced that the activation level of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been raised to Level 3, which will be further elevated to Level 2 on Saturday and Sunday.

San Francisco is gearing up for a weekend filled with major events, including the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, the Chinese Lunar New Year Parade, and various other New Year celebrations.

In order to guarantee the safety of the citizens and the smooth progress of these events, the city’s Emergency Operations Center will closely monitor the events and relevant developments. They will work in close collaboration with the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD), the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office (SFSO), regional public safety partners, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), and the Department of Public Works to ensure the overall safety of the city.

The Emergency Operations Center in San Francisco operates throughout the year, typically maintaining a Level 4 activation level. The staff on duty at the city’s Emergency Management Department monitor various activities 24/7, including planned events, unforeseen incidents (such as demonstrations), and other risks.

Like all large-scale events, the Emergency Management Department will coordinate response plans with municipal, district, state, and federal partners to ensure the safety of residents, businesses, and visitors. Sufficient response resources will be provided in case of emergencies.

This weekend, the city government urges citizens and visitors to take note of the following to ensure safety and minimize traffic disruptions:

1. Use public transportation whenever possible: Due to road closures around event venues, traffic delays are expected. It is recommended that citizens utilize public transportation as much as possible.

2. Stay vigilant and safeguard personal belongings: While participating in large events, be aware of your surroundings, securely store valuable items, and avoid leaving them in visible places in vehicles. If you notice any suspicious or unusual situations, please immediately inform the police or event staff.

3. Dial 911 and 311 appropriately: Only in life-threatening and emergency situations (such as police emergencies, fires, medical emergencies, or hazardous situations like downed power lines or gas leaks) should you dial 911.

For non-urgent issues, please visit the sf311.org website, SF 311 APP, or call 311 to report the situation.
