Ukraine on Sunday (September 7) stated that Russia launched the largest aerial attack since the beginning of the war on Ukraine. Russian military deployed over 800 drones and multiple missiles, resulting in at least 4 deaths nationwide in Ukraine and dozens injured. The Cabinet Minister building in the capital Kyiv was also set on fire for the first time.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the Russian armed forces launched 810 drones, 4 ballistic missiles, and 9 cruise missiles. While most of the attack items were shot down by the air defense system, 54 drones and 9 missiles still hit targets across Ukraine.
According to a post by Ukrainian President Zelensky on the social media platform X, there have been at least 4 deaths across Ukraine, with two fatalities in the Kyiv area alone and dozens injured.
Zelensky mentioned that in the capital region, besides residential areas being targeted, the Cabinet Minister building was also damaged and set on fire during the attack. Russian forces also attacked regions in northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine, including Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, and Odesa.
The Kyiv City Hall stated that drones targeted several residential buildings in the capital, resulting in at least two fatalities, including an infant. The air raid alarm lasted for 11 hours.
Zelensky expressed that such killings are deliberate crimes and war prolonging tactics. “All the world can stop the Kremlin’s criminals from killing by having political will,” he stated.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko described it as a “massive attack” covering multiple cities nationwide. In Kyiv, the Prime Minister’s Office and several government buildings were targeted.
“Government buildings and their rooftops and upper floors were damaged for the first time in enemy attacks. Rescue teams are working to put out the fires. I thank them for their hard work,” Svyrydenko said.
The damaged buildings are located in the government district in Kyiv, near the Ukrainian Parliament building and close to the Presidential Office.
“We will rebuild these buildings. But lost lives cannot be regained. The enemy threatens and kills our people across the country every day,” the Ukrainian Prime Minister remarked.
