In the live broadcast of the CCTV Spring Festival Gala on January 28th, there was a program where a group of robots and dancers performed the traditional folk dance “Twist Yangko” together on stage. This segment was widely mocked by netizens online, with some even commenting on the fact that the robots weren’t wearing pants!
According to a report by Chinese media Sina Technology, in this year’s CCTV Spring Festival Gala, a dozen humanoid robots from Hangzhou Yushu Technology dressed in Yangko costumes, holding red handkerchiefs, took to the stage to perform a dance called “Yang Bot” with the dancers, and even waved handkerchiefs.
The robots, reportedly standing at around 1.8 meters tall and weighing only 47 kilograms, are equipped with 19 degrees of freedom, enabling them to perform highly flexible movements.
The program sparked discussions online. Some comments included, “This program is the most interesting,” “Haha, funny but not beautiful,” “When watching the program, I was really afraid they might fall down,” “My dad didn’t bring his glasses and said, ‘Why are there so many zombies on TV,'” “I told my family that these are dogs standing upright, and if it were the Year of the Dog, they would put down their front paws,” “Although the robots have no faces, they still seem to have a forced sense of business,” “How do they manage to look both old and hardcore?”
Some netizens also joked about the robots not wearing pants, to which others replied, “Wearing pants would affect their performance,” “At least they are wearing clothes, which is already pretty good.”
Others expressed their opinions saying, “I am speechless watching this program, just having robots do this,” “The most terrifying segment of the Spring Festival Gala, and you still find it funny? What they are waving in their hands could be a handkerchief for two people, or even your head,” “I would be scared if they weren’t wearing padded jackets,” “I can’t imagine the military effects if they were used differently.”
This unique combination of technology and traditional culture certainly sparked a wide range of reactions and discussions among the audience, showcasing the ongoing innovation and creativity in modern entertainment forms.
