On July 1st, due to continuous heavy rain, a collapse occurred on the banks of the Panlong River in Linjiang Road, Wenshan City, Yunnan Province. This incident trapped multiple vehicles parked along the road and led to the evacuation of 13 households.
Videos circulating online show a collapsed section of the road stretching for tens of meters, adjacent to the Panlong River. A small truck is seen hanging precariously at the roadside, with several other vehicles fallen below, right next to a residential building. Netizens expressed concern, with some remarking, “The neighborhood is in danger.”
According to local internet users, the incident took place near the Hengfeng Market in Wenshan City, close to the Panlong River. One netizen mentioned, “I pass by there for a walk every day. The foundation there had sunk long ago, with significant cracks. The day before yesterday when I passed by, I even said sealing the surface cracks with cement is just deceiving oneself. Can’t we see that without a visible foundation, it’s still sinking? And today, it collapsed.”
In the afternoon of the same day, the local official Douyin account “Very Wenshan” reported that around 6:45 a.m. on July 1st, due to persistent heavy rain, a collapse occurred on the banks of the Panlong River in Wenshan City, trapping five parked cars to varying extents, with no casualties reported. By around 10:50 a.m., all trapped vehicles were towed away from the scene, and 13 households in the vicinity had been evacuated.
Staff from the Kaitian Street Office in Wenshan City responded to the Beijing News, stating that the collapse caused damage to multiple vehicles. Initial investigations revealed that the collapse was a result of the combination of continuous rainfall and pre-existing cracks in the road. Wenshan has been experiencing prolonged rainfall for nearly a month, with heavy downpours occurring frequently.
According to a report by China National Radio, Wenshan City has been experiencing cloudy to overcast weather with moderate to heavy rainfall as the main feature in the past week, covering 94.5% of the city area. The water level of the Panlong River has been steadily rising. At present, the collapsed road section has been closed off, and emergency repair work is underway.
