Recently, a slogan on the wall of the health center in Xiaokou Town, Taihe County, Fuyang, Anhui Province has sparked a controversy on the internet, making this town’s health center the center of attention across the web.
According to a video posted by a netizen on November 25th, a red slogan on the exterior wall of a building reads, “It’s a skill to cure illnesses, it’s an art to keep patients”. A banner hanging on the wall indicates that this slogan is suspected to have originated from the health center in Xiaokou Town, Taihe County.
After the video was shared online, it garnered attention and discussions among netizens.
Netizens expressed various opinions, with some saying, “The meaning is that curing an illness in one day takes a year to heal”. “It’s simply outrageous, they might as well have written ‘Don’t cure, also don’t let die'”. “If the illness is cured in one shot, there won’t be any income”. “How could they write their true thoughts out like this?”
“Who is putting pressure on the hospitals to survive?” “Now hospitals and schools are trying every means to increase revenue and earn more money.” “Are they being this blunt now, not even pretending anymore?”
In response to this, the staff of Xiaokou Town Health Center told “Zonglan News” that indeed, the slogan in question is displayed on the wall of the health center, and it was put up not long ago.
The staff also explained that the original intention of the slogan is to encourage patients to seek treatment at the health center for illnesses that can be managed there, especially because many of the patients coming to the health center are elderly. Seeking treatment in the county or city hospitals may be inconvenient, so the idea is to minimize patients’ travels.
However, netizens countered, “Is it to prevent money from ‘running away’ or people from ‘running away’? Who can’t see through their small-mindedness?” “In the past, there was another slogan: ‘Spare no cost, achieve capital’.” “We hope for a world where people are healthy, rather than stocking drugs on shelves collecting dust. That is the slogan a hospital should have, portraying the proper medical ethics.”
