In the United States, a full-time mom of three children has transformed her mid-century 1950s ranch-style house into a dreamy home with early American primitive style, looking incredibly beautiful.
Taylor Lowden and her husband Matt Lowden have three kids: 7-year-old Paetyn, 4-year-old Landon, and 1-year-old Olan. The family of five resides in a 7-acre ranch house built in the 1950s in Northeast Ohio.
After Taylor became a full-time mom in 2017, she started exploring her hobbies and turned it into a side hustle, founding a business called Flipping Vintage to refurbish old furniture. As she delved into hunting for unique vintage items, her house quickly filled with amazing antique pieces, sparking her interest in interior design.
“We love vintage, natural, and rustic home details, so over the years, we gradually transformed our home into our ideal vision,” she told The Epoch Times.
Fortunately, there is a large thrift store near their home. “The store is huge and treasures abound,” she said. “Most items, apart from furniture, are priced between 10 to 20 dollars, which allows me to buy things I love even on a tight budget.”
To fully embody her love for early American primitive style, based on the design principle of “respecting originality” and “returning to nature,” Taylor curated various household items that matched the vintage vibe of her 1950s home, giving her house a fresh new look.
“Our kitchen is absolutely styled in the 1950s, with only base cabinets below, open shelving above, and vintage cabinets on the countertop, creating an old-world atmosphere,” she said.
One of Taylor’s favorite decor approaches is using collected items like paintings, wooden canes, classic books, iron ore, pottery, and more.
Another precious find that adds to the primitive feel of their home is an authentic 19th-century grandfather clock, which Taylor acquired for just 300 dollars on Facebook Marketplace.
“Antique clocks like this one usually sell for around 10,000 dollars in working condition,” she said. “Though mine doesn’t work anymore, it still has its charm with all original parts.”
Decorating work on the farmhouse is still in progress. Surrounded by vintage finds, Taylor finds immense satisfaction, believing that one’s environment should be filled with things that bring joy and happiness rather than just trendy items.
Besides the aesthetic home decor, the Lowden family upholds a traditional lifestyle. They raise cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, and dogs on their land. They also have a large orchard with various fruit trees and flower beds.
Taylor chose to be a full-time mom to have more time to accompany her children and witness their growth.
Documenting her decoration process, Taylor shares on social media, letting netizens peek into her dreamy abode. She continuously updates her social media accounts with creative ideas and decor inspiration, receiving enthusiastic feedback.
One social media user wrote: “I can’t help but smile at every item you choose and how you place them. You have a God-given talent, and you have fully utilized it.”
Another person said, “I really enjoy your posts. You inspire me.”
